Every year, with the exception of 2020, our family goes camping in Maine. We go, year after year, to the same spot, and it’s something I look forward to for months. There’s something about “getting away” while also going someplace familiar—- it feels new and nostalgic at the same time.
This year is a little different, because I’ll also be doing a few book-related things while we’re in Maine, since Robert McCloskey is such a beloved part of the state’s literary landscape.
First, I’ll be stopping by Print: A Bookstore in Portland on June 30th to sign copies of Make Way: The Story of Robert McCloskey, Nancy Schön, and Some Very Famous Ducklings. Stephanie at Print kindly created this preorder link, so if you’re in the area and would like to arrange for a signed, personalized copy before the 30th, you can do that!
On July 1st, I’ll be at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick for an author visit and reading of Make Way in conjunction with their “Robert McCloskey: The Art of Wonder” exhibit. The exhibit looks absolutely wonderful, and I can’t wait to see so many of McCloskey’s works up close and in person. Information on that event is here.
I also have plans to stop by Sherman’s in both Freeport and Topsham to sign copies as well. But other than that, I’ll just be here:
Wishing you all rest, relaxation, and lots of reading as we head into the long days of summer.
